Sock Bun ~ How to ~ Styleista

I have recently found a couple ways to create the perfect buns and I want to share with you :)
Both involve a sock - cut off the toe of the sock and roll it into a doughnut like so. You can use one sock or two for extra thick.

Ballerina Sock bun
This works best when hair is straighter.

1. Put your hair up in a ponytail at the crown or top of your head. Brush the ponytail to
    create a smooth bun.

2. Pull your ponytail through the sock doughnut.

3. Place the sock doughnut at the end of your ponytail so that you can tuck the ends under
     the doughnut.

4. Roll your sock doughnut, with the ends of your hair tucked under it, towards the elastic.
With every roll, continue to keep tucking the hair under the doughnut until you reach your
scalp. It may take a couple of tries to get the hang of it, keep trying if it doesn't work the
first time, the results are worth it!

5. Tuck any loose or stray hairs under the sock doughnut, and, if you see the sock peeping
through, just tuck your hair and spray accordingly. There you have it, your ballerina sock
    bun!

Textured Sock bun

This works best when hair is curly or curled.

1. Put your hair up in a ponytail at the crown or top of your head.

2. Pull your ponytail through the sock doughnut.

3. Place the sock doughnut at the base of your ponytail, closest to your head.

4. Spread your ponytail evenly around the sock

5. So that half of your hair is toward the top of the sock, pointing toward your forhead, and
half is at the bottom, pointing toward your back.

6. Wrap the hair and twist it around the sock.

7. Secure the ends and any strays in place under the sock with bobby pins or my favorite
Goody Spin Pins for extra security.

8. Spray the finished product with a light application of hair spray and voila, a textured sock
     bun!

Found a few other fun twists and touches you could add to this style that I though I would share :)

Styled Zahra Al-harazi for Dolce Vita Magazine

I had the privilege of styling Zahra Al-harazi of Foundry Communications for Dolce Vita Magazine this summer. We shot in her beautiful home which will be featured in Avenue Magazine later this Fall with talented photographer Fritz Tolentino of Fritzology Inc. Check out the article in Dolce Vita magazine featuring Zahra, who made the Women's Executive Network's (WXN) list of top 100 most powerful women in Canada, and was named Chatelaine Magazines's 2011 top female entrepreneur. Below are some of the images that were captured.
