The Button Up ~ Spring 2014 Trend

The button up, collared shirt is back in a big way!

I love the chambray shirt especially when paired with white. Denim on denim, or the 'Canadian Tuxedo' as I like to call it, looks sharp too as long as the denim colors are different shades and contrast.





The button up is a classic, freshening up the look is all about how you interpret it and style it for yourself.

motionball gala

BE BOLD. BE BRILLIANT. BE BRIGHT

motionball is a not-for-profit organization that builds awareness and raises funds for the Special Olympics Canada Foundation. The organization is run 100% by volunteers and is the largest fundraiser for Special Olympics in Canada. Every year in Calgary (among other Canadian cities) motionball puts on two events; The Gala on Feb 28 and Marathon of Sport on June 7 . The focus is really on educating people about Special Olympics and celebrating all that it does.

I was able to speak with Paul Horton today who is one of the Board of Directors and the Director of the Gala and he was able to provide some insight into the concept, how to support the initiative and of course...what to wear.

motionball all has many tried and true supporters but is also focused on 'the next generation' of supporters. Paul believes in Calgary they are those who are looking to have a well rounded life which includes not only their family and immediate environment but also looking outside of that to have an impact in the community they live in. 

When asked what's new and exciting this year, Paul expressed there will be several incredible performances by a local dance crew called ILLFX, an exclusive fashion show by Swimco shortly followed by Dj Skratch Bastid. All of these performances will be in line with the 'Brighter' theme.

Of course to finish off we need to chat fashion! So I asked Paul what he hopes to see from a fashion perspective and he responded with enthusiasm expressing that of all the events held for motionball all across the country, Calgary is the one city that really embraces the theme. So this year he hopes to see bright colours and high fashion. I agree!

Talking Trends with Lisa Tant @ Holt Renfrew

Brenna and I attended the Talking Trends Presentation with Lisa Tant - Fashion Editor for Holt Renfrew. She is very refreshing because she is real about fashion and the fact that what you see going down the runway is not meant to literally wear on the street styled in the same way. The point - and we agree - is to find items that work for you. When picking up a trend piece this spring ensure you can wear that item a minimum of 3 ways otherwise it's not worth it.

PATTERN PLAY

Essentially this is a continuation of the Fall 2013 trend of mixing prints; pick out one colour and mix it with another print that has the same colour or pair it with a plain t-shirt or jeans.

BLACK & WHITE

Classic trend that endures; try mixing textures, dots, stripes and lace

Ps. White pointed pumps are a hot items this spring/summer!

SUGAR RUSH

Pastels either head to toe or subtly try them in a shoe or bag
