I love the casual elegance of a baseball cap and heels. Super sexy and not trying to hard.

Stampede Styling with Ricky Zayshley

Stampede Styling with Ricky Zayshley

Round three!

This time I had the pleasure of working with the fabulous Ricky Zayshley, Associate Editor of Avenue Magazine.  Ricky wanted to look modern and urban for the upcoming Stampede festivities that take over Calgary for 10 days. With this in mind the focus was an updated western look...nothing literal. We shopped in the CORE Shopping Centre and went to a variety of stores to find his look. The final ensemble was a combination of Harry Rosen, The GAP, ALDO and Holt Renfrew

European Vacation Day to Night

European Vacation - Day to Night

I have the pleasure of going to Europe tomorrow for 3 weeks! I will be spending time in some of the most fashionable cities in Germany, Czech, Croatia and Italy so of course my first thought goes to...what to wear???!!!

I have never been one to pack light. What does that even mean? So I will be bringing a large suitcase packed with my favourite things. Even if the suitcase is big it is not my actual closet so I have to think strategically on what items can mix and match as we all do when packing for vacay.

Below is an example of how to take a simple grey tank top from day to night. I want to be comfortable yet stylish so I would pair it with wedge sneakers, denim shorts and a lightweight cover-up to wonder around during the day and then pair it with strappy nude heels and a pencil skirt for the evening. The accessories can all be mixed and matched with both outfits.

Hope the tips help when you are packing for your upcoming adventures!

Stampede Styling with Lisa Ng - Media

Stampede Styling with Lisa Ng

Round 1!

This is a throwback to the first session with Lisa Ng from Hip Urban Girl in Toronto, Ontario. Lisa has never been to the Calgary Stampede and was so enthralled to hear all the stories of the festivities that happen throughout the event. She wanted to look just like her company name, hip and urban, but with a western twist! The look below is from Aritzia in TD Square, The CORE.

Stampede Styling with Michelle Magnan

Stampede Styling with Michelle Magnan

Stampede is coming folks and the one stop shopping destination for Stampede style is The CORE Shopping Centre in downtown Calgary. This last session was with Michelle Magnan of Toque Girls fame and writer for The Calgary Herald. Michelle has a lot of corporate functions that she needs to attend this year so our focus was how to dress contemporary for those events.

The key to Stampede dressing is to never sacrifice your own personal style and dress in a 'costume'. In each of these sessions the client is encouraged to bring one piece of their own wardrobe for me to build a Stampede outfit around. Michelle, the doll that she is, brought her brown cowboy boots which made my life a tad bit easier. However I wanted to build her outfit out of items that could be incorporated into her everyday wardrobe to ensure the value of each garment was getting maximized.

The final outfit was found at Club Monaco and BCBG Generation

It's all in the small details at Aritzia

Michelle's Outfit:

Club Monaco - Tatum denim shirt $139.00
Club Monaco - Rowan textured skirt $129.50
BCBG Generation - Beaded necklace $29.00

The contemporary outfit pairs together perfectly for any of your corporate Stampede functions but is also versatile for mixing with your current wardrobe throughout summer and the year. Here are some ideas:

Pair the denim shirt with a pair of white skinny jeans and gladiator sandals (for day) or strappy brown heels for day/night
Pair the skirt with opaque black nylons, a black silk top and finish with a black blazer for the office
Pair the necklace with a classic drapy v-neck tshirt and any kind of denim from skinny to boyfriend and if possible pair it with a shoe and/or bag with one of the same colours in the necklace

Cowboy boots are a staple during Stampede but there are a ton of ways to wear them so you don't get tired of them: Pair with a sundress, lace dress, denim cutoffs, skinny jeans and match the colour of them with a leather belt or your hat.

Stay tuned for many more of these Stampede styling sessions!

Work It Girl

Work It Girl

Are you stuck in a rut with what to wear to the office? When I am stuck in this rut I avoid stressing out on trying to be unique and instead focus on the classics. Classics always make me feel pulled together, chic and polished.

Opt for black, white or cream and accessorize with metallics or pops of bright colours to pull the entire outfit together and make it your own.
